About the Project

The Latinx Comedy Pachanga is an all-Latinx sketch troupe! Our comedy is about the realness of being Latinx here and now in 2020! No topic is too taboo, no subject too sacred — we comment and satirize everything we can because in confronting the truth we find healing!

Formed in 2018, the Latinx Comedy Pachanga was born from the need for a Latino Sketch Show in Los Angeles, one of the nations largest Latinx and Spanish Speaking cities, the lost great Northern Capital of Latin America.

Fernando A. Funes and Richard Aaron were tired of having to explain their POV to non-Hispanic white comedians in order to create the sketch comedy they wanted to see. Angry and frustrated at his situation, Fernando texted Richee, “Let’s do a Latinx sketch show.” The text was just Fernando venting, but Richee then said “Sure. Let’s do it.” A few weeks passed when Richee texted Fernando back, “So when are doing this Latinx sketch show?”

Richee yes-anded Fernando’s idea, and now it was time to put things in motion. So they put out a call to action on social media, “Who wants to do a Latinx skethc show.” Hands were raised and names came pouring in. From 80 people interested, that number dwindled down to 35 for in-person meet and greets, and from those number went down to a cast of 17 writers and performers for our first sketch show at the Bootleg Theater in November.

Since then, the Pachanga has produced sketch and variety shows at Second City, The Pack Theater, Moving Arts, and The Clubhouse. And we even had the honor of opening the 2019 Los Angeles Diversity In Comedy Festival at Second City to a sold out house.

This Fringe Show is a collection of some of the Pachanga’s best live sketches, world premier digital shorts, and some new live pieces we’ve been working on for the past few months. Written and performed by our ensemble cast of Latinx performers from all over the country, we comment on all things Latinx are not afraid to tackle any topic.

Best of all, our ensemble cast reflects the diversity of the Latinx Diaspora here in the US. We’re all from different different parts of the Latinx World — Miami, South Texas, Chicago, the San Fernando Valley, East LA, everywhere there’s a taco truck — but when we come together we form a community, and it’s feeling that is hard to find else where.
