Italome is such a grounded storyteller. With ease, clarity, and precision, she holds you on the edge of your seat and pulls you into her world until you’re fully transported. I loved the character transformations and the specific accent work. Both added depth to the richly drawn worlds of Nigeria and the US. Much like a spider crafting a finely woven web, Italome establishes a liminal space for the audience to exist within and before you know it, you’re questioning what’s real and what isn’t.

My overall impression
I didn’t realize how invested I was in Mermaid until the final moment when the impact of the show hit me all at once. It was riveting! I didn’t want it to end and yet I feel as though it hasn’t ended… Mermaid has stayed with me for days, existing in the space between the real and the mythical. How much of our lives is constructed by designs and machinations beyond our control? It’s an engaging, humorous, and suspenseful tale filled with wonder, heart and humanity. Simply superb.
