About the Project

Fiona Yu, a 30 yr old Chinese-American lawyer, appears to be just another Hello Kitty stereotype. She’s anything but. She says, "I hate Hello Kitty. She’s just clawless, fangless, voiceless, with that placid, blank expression topped by a pink ribbon. "

To rebel against her family’s marriage pressure and restrictive cultural tradition Fiona determines to take her own virginity and ends up reuniting with her long lost childhood friend, who has changed his name and reinvented himself as a respected plastic surgeon, specializing in female genital reconstruction.

While trying to avoid the “nice Chinese boys” her father tries to set her up with and navigate the murky waters of San Francisco’s legal world, Fiona tries out a new life with her childhood friend Sean, which consists of adventurous but platonic outings that always seem to result in dead bodies.

After Fiona’s father dupes her into an engagement with a ‘nice Chinese boy’ and her world starts to spiral out of control as she battles her bullying new boss, her unacceptable new fiancé and Sean pulling her farther outside her “normal” life, Fiona realizes she needs to take a stand.

And so with Sean’s help, Fiona embarks on a darkly twisted journey of self discovery and creates her own version of the American Dream, eliminating, without fear or remorse, anyone and anything that stands in her way. Hello Kitty Must Die is a manifesto of Asian feminism, Joy Luck Club meets Dexter.
