What I liked

I loved the uniqueness of it and the complete and utter unpredictability of it. I knew nothing about what I was going to see and I was glad to be taken on a ride of letting go any expectations and just letting Twirly take me wherever it was that she was taking me. I got the impression that sometimes she didn’t know where that would be either, which was kind of fun. What made that element of improvisation work for me was the fact that when she went back to the well-rehearsed elements she proved that she clearly has skills. I’m a lover of tap-dance and it’s always satisfying to watch skillful feet elicit a rhythm and beat from the floors, walls and objects around the space. I really loved her voice too. The ‘gift’ I received was also a fun memento. One of my favorite moments was the seemingly real distress the Stage Manager had when Twirly threatened to do something dangerous on the stairs that provoked a loud chorus of discouragement from the audience and stage manager alike.

What I didn't like

My one quibble was that when she sang, because she set up the fact that she uses a made up language, I really would have preferred the well-known song to be sung in her ‘language’ rather than using the actual words. It was great to listen to but I felt a great comedy moment was lost by singing in English – also it broke the world that she’d spent all this time creating where she speaks her own language and we have to somehow follow her.

I think I would also have liked to have seen the enactment of her death, told in her language too… That would have been fun and could have been a great starting point as we know about it from the programme notes so that would make our own interpretations of what happened thoroughly amusing. Maybe in the next show?

My overall impression

Quirky, surreal, unique. Possibly not everyone’s cup of tea but I left smiling broadly.
