What I liked
Everything. The specificity of the work is delightful as Twirly expresses herself in a kind of gibberish mixed with pointed gestures that fully immerses us in this otherworldly time she’s given us to enjoy some tricks, a lot of excellent tap dancing, and a beautiful rendition of a song that will make you feel things might actually just be alright.
What I didn't like
The only thing that comes to mind is that the sync between the tech operator and Twirly can only get stronger over the course of each performance but honestly, even if it doesn’t, watching the communication unfold between the two even in the moments that were [maybe not really] wrong just adds to the experience. Let everything go and enjoy this one, folks.
My overall impression
A fantastic show that you must carve out the time for. Twirly is a treat, throwing us back to the best of clowning and vaudeville while keeping us on our toes. It’s possible but unlikely that one performer and a pair of boots has engendered as much joy in a pack of humans in decades as you will find here.
