In 30 seconds, this actress/writer transformed the tiny Kansas Room @ Thymele, into an all-girls classroom in South Africa, with the gigantic force of her beaming smile.
The idea is big, and the framework is smart, specific. The performance is personal and powerful.
What I didn't like
Give us the lesson. If the author/performer so wishes, this almost demands to be a longer show, so we can bear witness to this history teacher who, alongside her country must come to terms with that History.
My overall impression
At an infectious, inciteful and exciting 30 minutes, ’No Child Left Behind" is one of those Fringe shows that you might not find unless you stumble upon it. But, seek it out, because this is a thrilling theatre nugget and you need to know who Makha Mthembu is. See this.
