What I liked
So many things! The sparse but intentional bedroom set immediately transported me to the eras and ages Christine portrayed, and I loved all the touches of detail in the props and costumes. The “guests” (mother and various boys played by one male actor) were wonderful additions and the dynamics worked really well. I loved the silliness and the truthfulness of it all. I also loved the video intro at the beginning.
What I didn't like
I loved it all!!
My overall impression
Christine Covode’s unique yet deeply relatable take on growing up causes audiences to both double over with laughter and to reflect on those important relationships we may take for granted. The focus on Christine’s relationship with her mother through the years frames the show perfectly, and provides moments for both hilarity and poignancy. The show was incredibly touching, but also so so joyful and ridiculous; it made me cry, but also made me shed tears of laughter! Christine effortlessly embodies herself at various stages in her life, from the exuberant and curious 10 year old to the lonely college freshman experiencing a bit of an existential crisis. I went once, and then had to come back to see it again.
