What I liked

I loved the cast—-they were committed, talented, with great timing. Funny script with clever editing. Great direction.

What I didn't like

There really was nothing that didn’t work. There was perhaps one lighting cue I noticed that I think was in error, but besides that, it was a really tight performance!

My overall impression

“Disrobed” was one of the more unusual immersive theatrical experiences I’ve had. The play is a funny romp about a woman who brings home her fiance’ to meet her family…..and he doesn’t know that they are all nudists. In order to ingratiate himself to his future in-laws, he has to pretend he is a nudist too, and literally must grin and bear it. Making a typically uncomfortable situation even more excruciating…and hilarious! The script was sharp, the pacing was snappy and the talented cast members had terrific comedic timing! But the most unique and memorable aspect of this show was the fact that the audience was as naked as the cast. Yes, nudity for audience members was mandatory. Although stripping down in a theater is not a typical thing to do, the awkwardness disappeared surprisingly fast. Because we were all in the same boat - everyone both onstage and in the audience—- the comfort level returned very quickly. Since the topic of the show was nudism, explored and discussed in a very heartfelt, tasteful (and yes, humorous) way, being nude in the audience made one really relate to the issue quite viscerally. It’s tough to get more immersive in a theatrical experience than this! Really effective! Put this on your bucket list. It may seem crazy, it may make you nervous, but do it anyway! It will be a memorable, eye-opening, and laugh-filled experience! – DJK
