What I liked
CORINNECHOOEY. What a delight. Every time she spoke, every time she sang – my eyes widened, my ears opened, and a smile crept on my face. Lemon Baardsen and Brenda Varda carry the weight of most of the piece, and they do so admirably, with a thorough commitment to the increasingly ridiculous nature of what they are being asked to do.
What I didn't like
I didn’t feel like the political references worked. They felt a little shoehorned in to a classic piece that has the unfortunate distinction of being able to absorb all sorts of interpretations.
My overall impression
An interesting take on a classic tale featuring some spirited performers going ‘all in’ on a very specific vision that sometimes flies and sometimes nosedives.
