I enjoyed the clever use of the panel for the different scenes along with the lightning design and precise technicality that would require a seasoned stage manager to do. The fight scenes were amazing and sometimes so over the top funny. The heroes fly, levitate, blasts the bad guys in what seemed to be an epic Marvel movie.
There are some standout performances within the cast, particularly M-Pulse (Travis Joe Dixon), Stephanie Connolly (Joanna Mercedes) and Tanner Risner’s oh-so-serious-yet-over-the-top Maximus, leader of the Super Five.
Kudos to the choreographer Soda Persi and Stage Manager Erin Moore for the amazing and arduous undertaking, as well as Greg Craft’s clever writing and development. Tattered Capes didn’t disappoint.
What I didn't like
I would have liked more time in developing the main characters (the superhero couple) at the beginning before the action begins so I could understand the twist at the end. Thus, a second viewing is recommended to fully comprehend the complexity of the characters and their motives.
My overall impression
Tattered Capes is an epic story trapped in a 80 minute show. What could have easily been a more extensive TV series is here squeezed all its juice into one action-packed show. It deserves a second viewing.
