What I liked

The storytelling here is just marvelous, utilizing the stage in simple yet effective ways, enhanced by subversive lighting choices. The vocals of the cast are muscular and hauntingly beautiful, at times. The choreography is never dull and always lends itself to the story being told. Standouts include Olivia Cordell as Fay and Max Udell as Selznick, but the entire cast is top notch.

What I didn't like

Honestly – I feel like Wuchte accomplished everything he wanted to accomplish with this piece. If anything, I just wanted more. The real joy now is that I get to spread the love of this show to anyone who’ll listen.

My overall impression

John Wuchte’s “Scarlett Fever” is a masterclass in successful Fringe. It’s intimate, endlessly inventive, and a non-stop trip through a fascinating and frustrating tale of the ‘glory days’ of the old Hollywood system. It’s a must-see and a triumph.
