The format was so unique beginning with stand up and then transforming into beautiful raw storytelling. Heather embodied her father and I was entranced by her portrayal of him. We feel her unending love for him despite the abuse and we watch Heather grow into her strength as a woman, not the man her father raised her like and no longer a girl, so gracefully onstage. We see her stand up to him and speak her truth. This show will inspire a lot of people and has already inspired me. I also love the lights used in the moment with her Father, I could imagine his living room with an old television set. Heather is magnificent as both a comedian and a gorgeously vulnerable actor.
What I didn't like
I loved it from beginning to end. I can’t wait to see how it grows and where Heather takes it.
My overall impression
I was blown away by Heather’s performance. She is not only a masterful stand up comedian, but has created a piece that not only showcases those strengths but the vulnerable truth underneath her stand up. The format of the show was so creative beginning with what Heather is known for, her stand up comedy. I have never seen a one woman show that begins in that way and then unexpectedly transforms into a vulnerable, heartbreaking and insightful look into Heather’s relationship with her Dad. Beautifully written and spoken from the heart. I was with her every word and found myself going from laughter to tears. A phenomenal show that I hope continues after the Fringe.
