Though I have no history with the source material, I found this adaptation to be charming, well-directed and performed, and full of insight into the human condition. Irina Kompa has the right combination of commitment and whimsicality, Patricia Mizen and Transe Carter shine in their assortment of odd roles, and Seb Brown’s visual designs are transportive. Fun and poignant for the whole family.
What I didn't like
While the frequent darkness made this a one-of-a-kind theater experience, I found myself wanting to see more of the great performances.
My overall impression
A thoughtful and immersive adaptation of the children’s classic, bouyed by strong performances and experimental staging.
