In a mix of the Princess Bride meets The Neverending Story set to a My Chemical Romance album this often funny and yet often heartbreaking story is told with great care and attention by Drew Petriello, Brandon Karsh and Adam Cash. You will find yourself cackling with laughter and also holding your breath at some tense exchanges. It's the kind of story and setting that can work well beyond the Fringe as it touches on so many feelings, trends, thoughts and philosophies of the audience. It is a heartwarming piece in many ways yet it never shies away from what is underneath all of this, what causes someone to lash out, to feel unwanted or unloved. And it is that boldness and vigor that creates a remarkable experience. A must-see for anyone who h... full review

I expected this show to be a ridiculous romp, and while it delivered on that expectation, it also showed a softer, genuine side that was unexpected and heartwarming. It caters to a kind of niche audience, but works very well for those it it. If you enjoy Harry Potter, fan fiction, or quirky coming of age stories this show is for you. ... full review

This mashup of SNL and the wizarding world I have to say is one of the most underrated shows at the Fringe Festival this year. I didn't grow up with "emo or the goth" lifestyle but this was one of my favourite shows at the Fringe so far. I've seen a number of Fringe shows making fun of others but the beauty of this troupe is that they made a satire but didn't take themselves too seriously while doing it. (Which I think is the key to a good satire). You must see this show. ... full review

I loved the show. It worked so well within the confines of what Hollywood Fringe is and played unbelievably well to the audiences that are watching it. All of the references were perfect for the 20-somethings audience and the actors handled the humor of the piece exceptionally. The writing was clever and struck a really nice balance between humor and grounded family drama. The piece feels like a clever and relevant gothic semi-spin off of the Harry Potter stories, very different but still similar to what Puffs has been so successful at doing off-broadway.... full review

This show was so funny, and wow it really took me back to high school/emo craze. I really thought that lead actress Sarah Richards was so charming and really really did a great job! Everyone was having so much fun you can really tell not only that this is a labor of love but that this is done by a fab group of friends and collaborators. So funny, great writing, acting, commitment, everything!... full review

Brandon, Adam, and Drew have been working on this show for years and it really shows. The combination of the ridiculous narrative device and the teenage drama had the potential for problems but the writing and performances are so well crafted and executed that it totally overcomes that and it creates a wonderful experience that perfectly captures the essence of the time it’s portraying. Having seen the show more than once I can tell the show is getting better and better with each showing and I would highly recommend anyone to check it out. Hopefully the show has life after its run at the Hollywood Fringe, because more people should see it. ... full review

Sunbathe in Darkness is a deftly-handled exploration of the growing pangs of adolescence, told through a frankly ridiculous premise. That apparent disconnect, however, does nothing but elevate the emotional core of the show. The fanfiction elements provide a healthy dose of levity to the story, while slowly opening a window into the protagonist, Casey. The entire cast deserves high praise for bringing an excellent script to life. Thanks to them, the characters feel real -- a feat made all the more impressive considering how frequently the story jumps back and forth between the real and fanfictional worlds, requiring a cast nimble enough to switch roles on a dime. If you're looking for a show that delivers hearty servings of both over-... full review
