The cast is just a delight. As “Casey”, Sarah Richards grounds the entire piece in a quirky, tortured realism that really hits home towards the end when she is asked to really run the bases emotionally. Casey Donovan is the definition of a scene stealer, with boundless energy that’s contagious throughout. And Mitchell Pratt really hits all the right wrong notes as the closest thing the piece has to an antagonist. You really do want to beat the crap out of him. The staging is creative and really makes the space come alive – kudos to director Brandon Karsh for really telling this story the way it needed to be told; and to writers Adam Cash and Drew Petriello for essentially geeking out to their heart’s delights.
What I didn't like
The piece tried to tackle maybe on too many social issue. I don’t feel like the ‘homophobia’ subtext really landed the way it could have.
My overall impression
A clever, geeked out romp through wizarding fan fiction that is actually a front for a potent tale about awkward adolescence and finding your voice.
