What I liked

The set is imaginative and elaborate. I am so impressed with this perfectly executed design under the chaos of the festival’s 15 minute load in and out. I was especially wow’d by the firepit’s ability to dim and brighten – a thrilling element on top of the attractive set, props, and costumes. Every actor shone in this piece. They tended to their comical and peculiar characters with love and care. I would like to shout out Luke Medina as Imogen. His attention to both the fragility and the sharpness of Imogen was touching. The pacing is perfect and there is never a slow or dull moment in this piece. The storytelling is dreamlike and bleary eyed, but in the best way possible.

What I didn't like

Like I said, this show is magic. I have no critiques.

My overall impression

Whimsical and charming at times – mischievous and bizarre at others, this is a standout piece of the 2019 Fringe Festival. It is so refreshing to see such a playful story with oddball characters treated with such care. The Last Croissant takes the tenderness of human vulnerability and strengthens it with the perfect amount of absurdity. This show is magic.
