What I liked
Honestly, everything about this play was engrossing and kept my interest. Acting-wise, there wasn’t a single person that didn’t bring their A-game. From Spencer Cantrell’s furverous portrayal of Brian Epstein, trying to balance the Beatle’s public image at the expense of his own mental wellbeing, to Stephanie Greer performance as Maureen Cleave trying to milk the right headline out of Lennon, while dishing out some real truth bombs at him, everyone is excellent. But I will say how uncanny David Foy Bauer’s portrayal of John Lennon was. Managing to balance both the carefree attitude and secret problems that are gnawing at the star, the performance is both authentic and sensitive. It’s almost like watching a young Lennon on stage.
The direction and writing is excellent. I was never bored at all. And at 50 minutes, it’s easy to fit into your Fringe schedule.
What I didn't like
The Script itself is excellent, but both me and my roommate wanted more. We wanted to see the other Beatles reaction to the interview as well as John’s wife at the time. There is so much more to explore with this! But I would keep it where it ended, no matter what.
My overall impression
A facinating snapshot of John Lennon, and the interview that changed the public perception of him forever. This play was well acted, written, and directed. I only wish I could’ve gotten more!
