There’s some great comedic and vocal chops in the cast; I particularly enjoyed Phil Meyer’s turn as the imposing evil Sheriff. The melodic score recalls G&S (and occasionally Beethoven) while remaining original. Above all I appreciated the overall good-natured playful spirit of the piece.
What I didn't like
Audibility was occasionally a challenge as vocalists competed with the music tracks. The show could use a touch of tightening of pace.
My overall impression
A light and charming emigration of Gilbert and Sullivan style operetta to the Wild West. Expect the familiar Savoy music and story traditions, now set in a world of cowhands, call girls, and six-shooter shootouts. Given the brothel setting the show’s a little more PG than typical G&S, but retains the genre’s innocence and warm silliness.
