About the Project
An honest look at the reality of a young woman’s struggles as she comes of age, in a world far removed from “Functional”. This story is a no- holds- barred reflection on a childhood that was filled many challenges,trauma and unique adventures.
Based on the real life experiences of a young black girl growing up in an all white fishing village in Nova Scotia Canada. In a Town where a Trailer was status symbol and in the only black family in the area. Despite being the only black family in the village, her family viewed being black as a handicap. regardless of all the failures and catastrophes one may face in life, Belynda has the ability to find laughter in all of life’s circumstances.
This show is an antidotal depiction of a woman leaving her small rural village and the cultural shock of moving to the one of the largest cities in the world.
Desperately seeking approval, sanity,cultural and personal identity. Belynda give raw and honest look at the challenges of adapting to becoming an adult, a spouse and a parent and how it could challenge the sanity of Dr. Phil.
This show has been described as inspirational, motivational, and moving. Belynda is hilariously funny and will have the audience in stitches.
