Perennials is a story about the relationships among three black women and how they deal with fear and loss: Micah is a West Coast girl who suffers from social anxiety, Kellie, a bright young painter on the East Coast who feels stifled by her religious upbringing, and Georgia, Kellie’s stoic mother and a recent divorcee struggling with accepting her daughter’s sexuality. The play follows Micah and Kellie’s budding romance after they hook up on social media and plan a way to finally meet in person. After an unexpected tragedy prevents that from happening, Micah resolves to keep her promise one way or another despite her fears.
