I appreciate dark humor, so the entire concept of this tale both intrigued and appealed to me throughout. I think the performance shifts between characters were quite good and I appreciated what came across as a weird sincerity in the midst of the darkness.
What I didn't like
I think the show needs to be trimmed about 10 minutes shorter. There are several scenes that give us no real new information—and while the characters are always good, I found myself getting distracted and unfocused during the latter third of the tale. And that’s exactly the time that things should be speeding up towards the end.
Also, while I understand the reason for the video segments, several of them felt too long as well. This is such a great little story I wanted to be kept caught inside it—and instead I found myself weaving in and out, partly because of the videos.
My overall impression
A lovely dark little tale about a serial killer and, yes, a pit of goblins. Multiple characters, some satire, one actor and a whole lot of dead bodies. Exactly the sort of theatrical journey one expects from a Fringe show.
