I thought it was really smart to limit the cussing/vulgar language until the intro of the white “rebel” son’s number – it was very well-timed and was a nice surprise and change of tone that worked.
Every singer was quite talented, and I was impressed with how full the sound was even though the number of instruments was quite limited.
I also thought the end number and ultimate “lesson” about all parents having their pluses and minuses were quite nice and sweet.
What I didn't like
There were times (especially during the “Asian” parents’ first number) where it was difficult to understand the lyrics. I’m not sure if it was the attempt to add an accent to the lyrics or if the keyboard level was louder in the first number than the others.
My overall impression
Hilarious and heartfelt memoir story told with sweet and spare production. Very personal to the creator but definitely something that I think anyone with uniquely loving parents could relate to.
