What I liked
The pacing impressed me; there was a great flow to the writing and direction. It was a wonderful presentation which it never left us behind, but still managed to throw some surprises at us. The script is tight and does an amazing job of nailing down a message without preaching and is very, very funny. Wonderful casting too. You can see the bond the cast has not only among each other but to the material. Well done!
What I didn't like
The only thing I thought needed something was the scene where Rev died. Since the actor can’t stop breathing and we can see the blanket moving, it detracts from the scene. As an audience member, I think we all know Rev is gone once he lies down and covers his face. Watching Pat’s character slowly realize it is great, but I think it’d be a better move to do a slow fade of the light on the bench where Rev is lying as he reclines. The blanket moving wouldn’t be as obvious that way. Another thing you might try is for Rev to hold a small pillow under his left arm. The blanket he’s got over his shoulders will cover it. When he’s lying down, if he holds the pillow tightly against his body, not moving his arm, he can breath, but we won’t see the blanket move as much. Just a small suggestion – This show is BRILLIANT!
My overall impression
It’s very difficult to be funny about such a serious issue, but this show nails it at every level. This is one of the best scripted shows I’ve seen in a long time.
