Charlotte Munson’s versatile performance conveyed despair, idealism, and dark humor with equal facility. Her interaction with environmental sounds and pre-recorded voices was seamless and helped create a sense of a much larger world. While Di’s story could have been told as that of a victim, the show satisfyingly shows her turning the tables against the emotional abuses of the royal caste system.
What I didn't like
The show is strong enough that it deserves its own branding, not a parody knock-off of Hamilton’s.
My overall impression
A frenetic recounting of Lady Di’s life through a series of meticulously choreographed funhouse-mirror vignettes and eclectic songs. Through the strength of the performance and direction, Di Lady Di manages to entertain while remaining respectful to its subject matter.
