About the Project

The piece is essentially set up like a 90’s music video in such that there’s a theatrical narrative setup / music begins and takes us on a journey / then ends with a non-musical resolution. Specifically, here’s how it rolls out >

The “audience” arrives for the launch party of a new product called “Nightcremé” – promised to eradicate/disguise age, flaws, imperfections, and ambitiously so, one’s inner demons. The coveted product was created by THE INFLUENCER, a trusted flawless, bionic-like, beauty icon who built her legacy via social media. Samples are handed out and whilst the attendees await the guest-of- honor’s arrival, they imbibe and casually view an informative video demonstrating the promised results of perfection. The party is being co-hosted by a group of white-leather-racing suit-clad beings known as “The Drivers.” They mingle, they drink, they enjoy, they wait, they host.
Suddenly , one of The Drivers gets wine spilled on their white leather suit, collective screams fill the air, their protective helmets go on, the attendees are instructed to open their samples and the world of perfection crumbles into a wild, enigmatic state of chaos and introspection.
Thus the “music video” portion begins. A pre-programmed original score inspired by the likes of John Carpenter, Nine Inch Nails, Peaches, and dark metal abounds and the audience is whisked onto the RED ROAD, a journey accompanied by red vintage road reflectors, running mascara, beat-synced Cindy Sherman-esque images presented via overhead projectors, howling, throaty, yet icy-hot vocals, live drummers, and dynamic choreography a la Janet Jackson. The attendees are led by The Drivers to various Stations, each sonically, visually, emotionally distinct as they all search for this idea of perfection they all came for. Explorations await musically, intellectually and metaphysically.

Clearly, the piece aims to examine the way in which we disguise ourselves (our flaws, demons, age, fears), how social media is intwined in that and how gravity forces us all to be on the same plane to deal with this or conversely, allow our egos to perform many stunts to avoid them.

As existential and loaded as these issues might be, I’d like to abstractly explore them with a sense of play, truth, humor, whimsy and rock ’n roll. And perhaps we can walk away not taking ourselves so freakin seriously.
