About the Project
Justine flatlines during a pre-op cancer procedure. Instead of “going to the light” during her NDE, she meets 5 Fear characters: Mona, her Mortal Fear – a Latin dominatrix; Phy-Phy, her Physical Fear – a butch lesbian Marine; Lulu, her Learned Fear – a British self-help guru; Puff, her Imagined Fear – a quirky creative obsessed with pink; and Always, her Chronic Fear – a hopeless addict; each of whom visit Justine via projected video. Each Fear character sings and dances, and helps her to understand the value and the destructive nature of Fear from their unique point of view. Throughout the piece, Justine grapples with her past, present and future while interacting with her projected Fears and at the close of the piece, she is revived in the procedure and returns to her life with an expanded perspective, a lot of questions and a desire to manage her Fears in a different way.
