NEGATIVE SPACES

ensemble theatre · cluster b · Ages 18+ · United States of America

world premiere

After a decade of bliss, Lily and Adam start a new chapter in their life together: having a baby of their own. Lily, almost 40, endures the physical toll of multiple miscarriages. Stresses mount and the couple’s dream of having a baby starts to slip away, until a young woman named Cosette, who can conceive, enters the picture and fills its negative spaces.

Life, death and the space between: this play follows a couple as they explore trust, betrayal, longing and loss, and their corrosive effects on relationships and the choices that define them. Heavy, sad, and with moments of harsh reality cut by sharp humor, it examines what happens when a couple can’t or won’t (or shouldn’t) reproduce. Play contains nudity (well, not really…).
