What I liked
Everything. And it sucks that I “have” to “provide my thoughts in all three boxes”. This is redundant.
What I didn't like
I hate this category. Who the fuck do we think we are?
My overall impression
This piece is a perfect representation of at least three theatrical genres: cabaret, burlesque and fringe. With its extraordinarily gifted ensemble, its clever writing and its concise and specific direction, Shakeslesque offers what should be viewed as a definitive fringe production. Seemingly dozens of musical numbers (all covers), bring a postmodern take on their contextual purpose and, when combined with jaw-dropping, gravity-defying choreography, further the writer’s bizarre, mystical tale following many of Shakespeare’s more notable characters as they phantasmagoriaize their original intent. It’s a brilliant construct with limitless talent. Every fringe producer should learn from this production.
