My Mobster

This a really fantastic and fun night at the theater. Ms. Nash is a hilarious and compelling storyteller, and boy-oh-boy is this a story. Ms. Nash is so emotionally available and facile with her character changes that they are able to have genuine conversations - avoiding the worst of the artifice associated with one-person shows. For anyone who's tried to turn Mr. Wrong into Mr. Right (or Ms. as the case may be) there will be a lot that you relate to, and some laughs borne of wishing you didn't identify quite so closely. Note: I took one star off of "Effectiveness of Production" due to issues with some of the sound cues. I suspect they occurred because I saw the first preview, and they will be ironed out by the time you read this review.... full review

A hilarious, sad, slightly disturbing and yet altogether hopeful look at one woman's romance with a tall, dark man of mystery. This show could have easily gotten by just relaying the mobster's quirks (and they are many and fantastic), but the seemingly boisterous Joy Nash bares a delicate soul, conveying a depth of emotion and feeling that transcends any simple quirky character piece. A must-see at the Fringe, or at any venue this show graces in the future. Rest assured, this mobster will remain at large for a long time to come.... full review

An incredible, romantic and funny journey through the streets of Paris with Joy Nash as our tour guide. A delightful presence and terrific talent, this show is not to be missed. I'm telling all my friends not to mess with "David, the King."... full review

Hilarious and heartbreaking. I recommend this with two thumbs up! On the surface, the play follows the hysterical Joy Nash on her crazy affair with a Mobster in France, but at the heart of it hits on what it means to be a human in search of love and acceptance. LOVED IT!! ... full review

If y'all don't know Joy Nash (of Fat Rant fame) by now, you are truly missing out. She's a wonderfully funny and incisive talent, and here's a chance for you to hear one of her truly EPIC, weird, and raw stories at L.A. Fringe. If I were to compare this story to something more familiar, it'd be something like Tarantino meets John Waters. Joy Nash is wonderfully versatile in this deeply personal coming of age story. She effortlessly weaves through each of her characters adding color and dimension within her story and telling. Joy Nash is appealing in this cute story of her trip to Europe in which she falls for a handsome young man of questionable work ethics. While the script and direction are at times unfocused and confusing, Joy deftly rises above these distractions and wins us over through her solid acting and overall charm. Can't wait to see her on stage again!... full review
