Review by MORNA MURPHY MARTELL

What I liked

Being a lover of literature I found this an excellent capturing of the spirits of these two great writer-performers. The language in the play was so rich I thought that the playwright was using actual quotes but learned after it was his own words and thoughts. Taking the two men from their first dramatic meeting up to their last when disillusion and bitterness was haunting them both made a fascinating hour.

What I didn't like

I would have preferred that only actors who resembled Hemingway and Welles had impersonated them. They are such well known figures that it was confusing to realize who was who in a number of scenes. In fact, even though all the actors were excellent, I’d like to see the Hemingway in the first scene and the Welles in the second carried the entire play as a two-hander.

My overall impression

Shows the friendship of two volatile artists over a period of 23 years from youthful passion to elder regret. If you love artists this is a chronicle you should not miss.
