About the Project
Fishing for Love: Coming Out and Tackling It is a one-woman show written, produced and performed by Mariel Josette Mickens and directed by Jessica Lynn Johnson.
My show is about me coming out as a lesbian and all the trials, tribulations and triumphs that go along with that. My show examines how religion and faith impacted my view about my sexuality and the experiences I had while being brought up in Texas. I explore my struggles and questions with the church and how religion and society look at the LGBT community. The show chronicles my journey through death, drugs, experimentation and discovery. It’s not just a LGBT show but also a show that explores acceptance and understanding of ones self and all the craziness that goes along with finding that.
