What I liked

What I didn't like

Maybe a little less of the documentary characters at the end??? Small critique and simply because Mr. Budd’s story is so engaging it builds and we want more of him. But his characters are spot on I was never bored.

My overall impression

Mr. Budd is an amazing actor that has an amazing command of character and this show is a perfect showcase. It starts out documentary style with a bunch of couples discussing their relationships, love, commitment, compromising etc. One of the things Steve does is move quickly into characters but carefully sets them up by grounding himself like turning the chair around or leaning in. If you are thinking of doing a one man show this is the man to watch on switching into characters: Quick YET carefully. Well done. As fun as these people are we then meet Steve. The man himself. And the woman he falls in love. And then his problem with accepting love surfaces. Uh oh. Here is another wonderful thing about his performance/writing is that we really aren’t sure what his problem is and it almost seems like he is his own worst enemy and that creates a tension between the audience and Mr. Budd where we really start rooting for him. We become really invested in his performance and his Girlfriend. There is a lot of mystery and questions left unanswered as he is careful to share. That makes for great writing and great drama. A must see!
