I liked some of the dialogue and lyrics in Sybil’s Closet. Some fun and playful characters, especially the character of Betty and the Parson. Some fun playing and good characters in the 3rd one! Nice work from the cast. .
What I didn't like
Again because of diction, it was hard to understand the main conflict/antagonists in the Koffee Kantata, so I got a bit lost.
In the 3rd piece Sparkles about Dungeons and Dragons, if you are not a player in the Dungeons and Dragons world, a lot of it went over my head because of the pace and the “game slang” of the dialogue. Hard to follow and understand and too mumbled or rushed at times. In Sybil’s Closet, I liked the clarity of the book and the lyrics, but the atonal and difficult music was hard for these actors and they struggled a lot with it. In addition, instead of getting me MORE inside the song and joining the emotional moment to a melody, it seemed to distance us from the moment and distract. I like originality but it also needs to find a core feeling of the moment and not just be ‘weird or interesting’ for its own sake. And especially if your actors are struggling. Maybe it’s a good thing to rewrite or look at as you develop that piece.
My overall impression
Some clever moments and some fun characters, but because of some sloppy diction, some plot points were vague and indiscernible. With a new piece, everything must be crystal clear to be able to follow the piece. Felt a bit lost in the 1st and 3rd piece because of this.
