I thoroughly enjoyed the narration device used in the play. The writing was excellent and the interpretative dance numbers provided an extra level of wow-factor. I also enjoyed that the play didn’t water down its message. I enjoyed the fact that Joumana was empowered to challenge the cultural norms and spoke unapologetically about all of the subject matter. The use of a multi-cultural cast was also a delightful element to the play.
What I didn't like
There is nothing that I would change about this play.
My overall impression
Watching this play is a transformative experience. The view through a micro lens provides the audience with a glimpse of the struggles of an Arab woman, as she goes from youth through adulthood. The viewers are taken on a journey and exposed to some of the ideologies and cultural norms placed on Arab women. Through a macro lens, the viewers are forced to take a deeper dive and realize that while this play focuses on the life of Joumana Haddad, we can all relate to the struggles of the character in one way or another.
