Talking with Angels: Budapest, 1943

It is heartening in these unquiet times to be reminded that every one of us can take a stand for good. The main character of this play, Gita Mallasz, was honored in 2011 as one of the Righteous Among the Nations for her Schindler-like rescue of over 100 Jewish women and children. She also participated in a small group who claimed to have received angelic instruction during the war, and this play tells their story. There's a saying that we have an army of angels at our command if we but ask, and the message of this play is that for this group of four, that saying bore fruit. If it happened once, who's to say it can't happen again? Whether or not you believe in angels, this is a compelling insight into Holocaust history not to be missed. ... full review

This is an important play given the backdrop of our own political landscape. The intersection of the divine and human and the profoundness of the messages speak to both the power of the light and the collective darkness and the consequences of what we choose to embody and extend. I really enjoyed this piece. I am not one for solo performances most of the time but I wanted to give this one a shot. I was pleasantly surprised and the show really did not feel like a solo performances. The actress seamlessly transitions from one character to another aided by some of the most beautiful lighting I have seen in a space so small. This is a great show and I am glad it is happening at the fringe. ... full review

In it, some very good, unlucky people must, for the sake of survival, persevere in their immediate harrowing reality.
