What I liked

David Harper’s amazing acting range made this feel more like an ensemble piece than a one person show. His characterizations were spot on, the mixture of humor and pathos was just right, and his vocal chops are amazing. I can never remember having this many belly laughs at a show, and I’d like to add that I have never seen him perform before, and don’t know him or know of him personally, This is a totally unbiased opinion from a generally very critical person with 15 years of stage experience.

What I didn't like

There’s not a thing about this show I didn’t like.

My overall impression

This show is a must see, particularly for anyone interested in doing a one person show, to see how good it can get. David Harper is an amazingly talented writer and performer. I spent 20 years in Texas, and his Southern characters are right on the money. In the space of little over an hour, he portrays several different ethnicities in 12 separate monologues. These portrayals are humorous and touching, sometimes poignant, always believable. As a former philosophy graduate who has never yet been paid to pontificate, I particularly enjoyed one character’s riff on Aristotle and Epictetus, right before he asks for some leftover food. You feel as though you’re seeing the work of an ensemble here, and there is never a dull moment. I’ve never laughed so hard in my life. Run, don’t walk, to this show. The doors are closing.
