So glad that I finally got to see this beloved, rarely performed musical. And thrilled that I got to see it with a nuanced, funny, and engaging performer. Shannon Nelson makes this show. It's a musical about a woman's love-life and career that I'm sure every unmarried 30-something can relate to....

It's not surprising Tell Me On A Sunday is rarely done- a one-woman sung-through show where the only person onstage seems not to be the main character. That is to say, she is almost entirely defined by her relationships with a series of men- I believe this show, ironically, does not pass the "Bechdel test" since she discusses (or sings of) little else.
It is also not hard to see, though, why the role would be an attractive challenge for Shannon Nelson. Her wide eyes and small frame seem tailor-made for a young lady arriving in New York, ready to conquer the world. And Nelson does a nice job tracing her descent, as she is buffeted from one terrible relationship to the next. Even if I was ready to head out by failed relationship #4, Nelson ...
