Meet Simon “Rocky” Peter and his band of failed Messiahs – er, make that ‘apostles’ – as they try to turn wide-eyed wonderkid Jesus into a star on the messiah circuit. Irreverent, satirical, and borderline blasphemous, this comedy examines what tradition and dogma has declared Jesus must be, with Jesus serving as a reluctant ‘lamb to the slaughter’.
A comedy that makes no apologies for its premise, this show is an irreverently light-hearted look at the life and times of Jesus H. Christ. At a time when messiahs practically outnumber grains of sand, Jesus is a new rising star. Enter Peter and the Apostles – failed messiahs in their own right who have now taken to messiah management. While Jesus attempts to maintain his integrity, his marketing team attempts to cash in on his message.
This play examines the conceptions that we have about Jesus, his mother, and his ministry. It takes on organized religion and its apparent manipulation of his message in a search for wealth and power.
The show had its world premiere in Amarillo, TX with AVENUE 10. It featured a cast of 10 and left audiences cheering at its end.
It is potentially offensive to some, is not necessarily family-friendly (there is some foul language and sexual situations), and is perfect for someone who likes their comedy rough and raw.
