About the Project
“The Overnights” is a play set at a local news station with only five main characters; two anchors, Greg and Lily, the head writer, Aaron, the executive producer, Ken, and the line producer, Jill. The station is in trouble, they’re not getting high ratings and no accolades to back them up, so the network gives them two weeks to make some changes or they’re going to fire Jill and Ken. Jill insists that they need to go back to a more traditional news station and focus on the news and meaningful stories, however, Ken believes that what they really need to do is sell more products and tell sexier people stories. After much debate, Ken and Jill wage a little bet to see who can bring in the most attention for the station. After two weeks, if Ken wins he gets to keep his job and Jill does whatever he wants, but if Jill wins she becomes executive producer and Ken has to follow her orders. Oh! Did I mention Ken and Jill are married?
