One of the most surprising offerings at this year’s Fringe. Here’s a “one-man” show that actually feels like a play! With book, music, lyrics by Michael Shaw Fisher, we visit an Elizabethan pub where we are regaled by stories and songs from none other than Shakespeare, played by Mr. Fisher, who drunkenly fears that history will call him out for NOT writing his plays, so he proves to us, his pub-mates, that he is indeed the verified scribe of the famous folio. By turns funny and emotional, it’s clear that director Jeff Sumner understood that the event (which takes place on Shakespeare’s last night on earth) is grounded in reality. Also stunning is the Elizabethan music, played by Alistair Cooper on guitar, and Allison Sulock on a variety of Renaissance instruments. If the show is extended, you must catch it.
