My overall impression

This was a tight and well executed production from the script to the acting to the staging. And the combination of the minimalist set and dramatic lighting made it a visually stunning production. I also thought the play write did a good job of summarizing the story without losing validity. The only thing I was longing for was more variety, or contrast in the “emotional landscape”. Emotions ran high throughout the show and violence, anger, sadness, and despair dominated, which is appropriate. But, at the same time I found myself wondering who were these characters in real life? Who were they when they weren’t busy shouting and carrying on, or playing the role of victim or aggressor? And, I was longing for this idea of Joan being transgendered to be explored in more depth, or in a way that gave us new insight beyond the obvious of making Joan a target for persecution.
