My overall impression

We expect certain things from our storytellers.. primal triggers, emotional impacts, mental stimulation, new ideas, etc.. What we don’t often think of is the time frame in which we allow all of these things to take place. One of the aspects of ‘5 Sirens: Beware of Rocks’ that I enjoyed the most was how each piece achieved at least one, if not all of these, in only ten minutes each! That in itself was an impressive and fun ride. The way these 5 playwrights put their pieces together also allowed for a steady movement through the spectrum of feelings and at the end left us laughing. Overarching all of the subtleties, the big theme for me here was the different forms and stages of Love. Yup, the big ol’ L word.. Spock at Bat walked us though the awkward eagerness and hopefulness of new love. Whatever Works touched on where fear, power, and surrender can become a path to love. Don’t Panic reminds us why it is we turn to those who make us feel the best when we’re feeling our worst. Ten Years Left (I needed tissues for this one) was a look at how hard it can be to love oneself, stand up for oneself, and even feel the love around us until we remember through our love and protection of another. Out of Here brought in off-planet help to ultimately show us that the one intelligence that can never be taken from us is the one our hearts hold. I humbly give these ladies and their cast a high-five and a hat’s off for this beautifully written and energy filled romp!!
