My overall impression
Writer/Director Wade F. Wilson brings his vision to fruition in an unwavering manner via this very well written and executed play. It is imperative to understand the style of storytelling as this not commonly written or brought to the stage. “Theater of the Absurd”- Heightened people in abstract situations. Using Shakespeare’s reference of “Holding the mirror up to nature” we find the mirror at an extreme angle and even distorted. All dress, costume, and behavior is heightened. Characters come in and out from out of nowhere. The story can be disjointed and the author’s intention is to make the audience think.
A suicide attempt that leaves the character (ME)in a coma dealing with whether to live or die presenting life’s societal ills of alcoholism, physical and verbal parental abuse, betrayal of a friend, and being turned away from the closest people in his realm including his parents, grandfather, and school buddy with a girlfriend who stays loyal during his comatose state with faith that he will live and be able to carry on with their relationship met with the conflict of a loving embrace by the same characters displaying their affection and love for (ME). Superb casting and players that perform believable scenes. The conflict of dark and light energy in the form of a (Ghoul), (Angel), (Loveless), (Death) and the impressive very powerful stage presence of (Circus) superbly performed by Graydon Schlichter.
Multimedia and voice over were tastefully and artistically used to open the play and embellish the heart and depth of the characters at the end. Emotionally riveting scenes and a script that flowed superfluously from one scene to the next keeping one engaged throughout.
I highly recommend this wonderful production for all that seek quality storytelling brought to the stage with heart and soul delving deep into the meaning and purpose of life and our existence in the human form.
