My overall impression

Love, Love, LOVE THIS SHOW! Megan is a phenomenal storyteller, transitioning effortlessly from character to character as she shares her insightful, brave story. What I love most about Megan’s writing is that she never forces any opinions on her audience. There are no statements made…she doesn’t guide you to feel any one way about her story..she simply tells it – mostly through the eyes of her 8 year old self…And what’s so beautiful about that kind of writing is that we get to decided for ourselves what we feel by simply experiencing it with her but through the eyes and experience of an adult. The writing is superb. Her performance is extraordinary and she never misses a beat. Megan is one of those unique performers who lights up the entire stage and is always one step ahead of the audience. You have to jump right in and go along for the ride to keep up with her. Her vulnerability is beautiful and so is her honesty. She hysterically expresses the many frustrations and truths that both children and parents secretly think but never say..Her story is so poignant. The way the tiny comforts of home and food and snacks are sometimes all we have when our worlds fall apart around us, especially in the wake of a devastating divorce. How do children cope? What do they hold on to? When the parents aren’t there and we become our own parents.. doing the things we did with them.. eating the snacks and watching the beloved television shows we used to share.. all the things that are familiar that we now hold in our own small hands. The final scene is so heartbreakingly simple and profound. The concept of family and how sacred it is to accept people in order to move on. I feel like this may be my most disjointed review.. but it is only because I cannot seem to find the words to truly capture how deeply Megan’s story moved me. You have to see it to understand. And GO SEE IT. I think her performance is one of the best solo pieces I’ve seen at the Hollywood Fringe.
