My overall impression

I saw this at a sold-out Comedy Central performance a few weeks ago, and still quietly giggle to myself about it when I’m sitting in my day job cubicle pitying myself.

You’d think that getting paid to float on a cruise ship and entertain passengers for several months is easy money. That’s what I thought! Because I had no clue! But through one specific encounter after another, Snowden shows you that, you know what? Maybe not so much with being trapped on a floating city with intermittent internet access, highly-dramatic coworkers, needy passengers and all those buffets.

With seemingly little effort, she slips into and out of a dizzying array of characters – all of them people she encountered during her adventure high seas – and makes each of them glow with Life. Men, women, children, flakes, she embodies them all with bravado. This show also touches on the toll the job took on one of her personal relationships, which made my heart ache. We’ve all been there, but few of us in the context of Trapped On The High Seas.

If I ever go on a cruise I’ll do so as a passenger only, as my parents did, mainly because of Snowden’s show. Her hilarious, bravely-honest performance showed me that this is not a job that I would ever want to do in life. But I’m so happy that I got to be entertained laughing at somebody else’s love/pain.

This is a good show. Go!

For the record, I don’t personally know Snowden. I met her at a bar during one of the Fringe mixers, where she gave me a postcard about this show. And that postcard might have been ignored in the Vast Pile Of Show Postcards if not for a pal who, independently and weeks later, happened to mention that Snowden’s show was worth checking out. That pal was right. Check this show out.
