This show is equal parts heart-wrenchingly honest and enticingly sweet. The poems artfully balanced between charmingly making the audience laugh, and exposing something so brutally real that there were tears shinning on every face I could see long before the stunning finale. The only thing that could possibly outshine the words were the actors themselves, who bared their souls on the stage and jumped in to what must have been a rather emotionally and physically exhausting performance with everything they had. Not only did they give us the gifts of their voices, but throughout the show they give out the toys they're playing with, as if to invite the audience in to the magic, and give them a piece to take home.

This show was unlike anything that I have ever seen before, and everything about it was so beautiful. From the moment you step into the theatre, stuff is already happening, captivating you from the start and giving you a strong idea of what is about to come. I have become so inspired after watching the show, after listening to the poems of my peers, and seeing them being brought to life. You see so much vulnerability on that stage. Being vulnerable and putting your soul out in the universe is really scary. But after seeing that vulnerability and bravery out of those onstage, as well as of those who wrote those poems, you cannot help but feel inspired. Poetry in Motion is a beautiful piece of theatre! Fortunately this is a transplant from the CSULB Theatre department, and thus the ensemble has a strong foundation of giving and receiving with each other. As an audience member, come ready to receive gifts (metaphorical and otherwise); the brilliant use of props is moving and gives the players tools to send their text. It is a journey, and it does what theatre does best; you are taken along for the ride, and you leave with both catharsis and hope. The lighting and music are perfect for creating the atmosphere of each poem without becoming distracting.
