My overall impression

Do not walk RUN to see this show before it’s sold out, or pray it gets extended. I am going a second time myself. This goes much further than the original concept, which is basically genius, and manages to delight and surprise at every turn. People who love Little Women and/or GIRLS will dig the hell of out it, but someone who isn’t familiar with those would love it too. The performances are funny yet grounded, with the whole play being hilarious with some very touching moments! My only notes for the production would be to take your time – they seem to have gotten caught up in the idea that it is “fast paced” and sometimes moments don’t land quite the way they could. The other note is about the way the play is structured- I understand it was originally written as a serial, but it has developed to the place where they could lose a lot of the scene changes which make the play seem much longer than it is. Every time the lights come down you have to get the audience back and it’s a little taxing. I also think Amy should wait to get her fake British accent until she comes back from Europe. That’s confusing. But these are such minor minor notes because the play was DELIGHTFUL AND SO SMART AND SO WELL CAST AND SO WELL PERFORMED. BRAVA!

Update: Took some friends to see the added midnight showing, and a lot of my pacing questions were answered. I don’t know if it’s because I was used to it, but the performances seemed more grounded at this run. One stand out was the actor who plays Meg, she was good the first time but I felt like she went new places and surprised me even the second time around! I also want to give a shout out to the cast who were not one of the main four, because they are so strong in their roles and bring a lot to it. I also realized that the short length of the scenes doesn’t get to me until the last half of the play – right before Christmas to be exact!
