My overall impression
Mimi is an incredible performer. I came across the description of her show on the fringe website and was so intrigued. A woman wakes up in the middle of the ocean and must find her way home? I’m in! But, not only did this synopsis intrigue me, Mimi’s poetic writing, skillful dancing, hauntingly beautiful singing, and overall extraordinary performance truly delivered on the whimsical concept. I loved how she started in the land of sleep and American commercials. The dichotomy between the two sides of the ocean, capitalistic and commercial and the other truly magical and free (although disappearing), was so cleverly illustrated. Each and every one of her characters were so magnificently performed. She seamlessly goes from English to Spanish, character to character, effortlessly, keeping the audience in the palm of her hand the entire time. This show was one of my all time favorites out of the 28 shows I saw this year. Mimi is a bright beacon of an artist. Her use of space was brilliant. I still can’t get the song Buena Noche out of my head. Brava!
