I really enjoyed this show. Well performed, well directed, well written. Did we really wear that much plaid in the '90s? (YUP.) Go see it, before it's gone. ... full review

Another great Fringe showing from Will Play for Food, Riot Grrrl Saves the World will be a hard one for a lot of people to describe accurately, but I would like to give it my best shot: referencing this show to any of the films dedicated to a punk-rock upbringing doesn't really do it justice, as this play out-punks the lot of them. The setting is as stripped-down and raw as a dive-bar venue and the play focuses tightly on it's stars. This not only props up the "this is who we are" punk ethos that is so well represented here, but is a great chance for the incredibly talented cast to shine. Though all of the performances are strong, Zoe Lillian and Emma Servant stand out amongst the four, with Lillian giving an absolutely convincing performan... full review

This was a really fun show to watch. It was energetic and lively. The acting was great and each actress brought something special and unique to their respective role. The live musical performance was really cool (I wish there had been more!). I do think that the script needs some work (especially the ending) and I really wish I got to know more about the backstories of the characters because they were all so interesting!... full review

In a truly original one-act play, Riot Grrrl Saves the World is packed full of solid performances, with especially good work from Poonam Basu and Zoë Lillian as kindred spirits who become closer as the play progresses. They both display a natural charisma and ability for the roles. TIffany Mo and Emma Servant provide rich performances too and it's obvious the cast has true chemistry. The show is also loaded with wonderful asides to the audience in the form of short monologues, all helped along by well-paced directing - and as a bonus, you get to see a LIVE girl band crank out some raw, steamy punk onstage. But...does Riot Grrrl really have what it takes to save the world? If you haven't yet seen it, be sure to catch it during the extended ru... full review

I'd lived the 90's, but not as a girl. Now I have. A fun and gut-punching tale, well executed. Great work!... full review

Thank you, thank you Will Play for Food for putting this very important story on the stage. Louisa Hill's beautiful script is such a refreshing and necessary voice. I really enjoyed the language of religion/faith mixing with the grrrl talk, into a kind of magical poetry. I loved the diversity of this awesome all-female cast, and I loved the authentic body-positivity of this production. This is what the Fringe and the theatre world in general (but most especially in LA) needs more of! I loved looking over and seeing a whole row of young men next me who were SO into this story -- YES! Thanks for helping prove that grrrl stories are important for everyone to hear! I would have loved to see the actors playing the romantic interests have... full review

Originally posted on Bitter Lemons: "Fringe Femmes" | "Riot Grrrl Saves the World (or, The Zine of Grrl)" by Louisa Hill | Man. To some of us, 1992 doesn't seem that long ago. But I'd guess that even for those who were in diapers (or not even?) then, Louisa Hill's exploration of the Riot Grrrl post-punk, third-wave feminism music and zine movement that began the '80s and '90s could not be more fun and fresh. So in Riot Grrrl Saves the World it's (kinda) 1992 and not only do we find three teens (Zoë Lillian, Emma Servant and Tiffany Mo) grrrling up for action, empowerment and self-discovery while putting together a garage band, but also an outsider (Poonam Basu) who finds them while distributing Jehovah's Witness materials about the en... full review

I had such a blast watching Riot Grrrl Saves The World. The story is engaging and the energy of the talented cast is electrifying! I loved how spirited and passionate each actress was from start to finish. My favorite parts were the monologues spoken directly to the audience. The actresses delivered their impassioned words with such conviction and truth that I was right there in the moment with them--I was a part of their riot grrrl world, and it was so cool. You don't want to miss this super fun show!... full review
