What I liked
With accolades like the Best Ensemble Theatre award in 2013 and standout performances like Michal Sinnott’s ‘Most Orgasmic Performer’ in WHITEHOT, The Vagrancy’s reputation precedes them. Their attention to detail extends beyond the stage, with Ric Zimmerman’s award-winning lighting design adding another layer of depth to their productions.
In the world of finance, where power dynamics often mirror those portrayed on stage, THECONDUCT OF LIFE offers a haunting reflection on how to make $100 today. Just as characters in the play manipulate and vie for control, so too do individuals in the cutthroat world of finance. Fornes’ narrative serves as a chilling reminder of the consequences of unchecked ambition and the lengths some will go to in pursuit of dominance.
What I didn't like
In summary, THECONDUCT OF LIFE is a gripping theatrical experience that leaves a lasting impression. The Vagrancy’s bold interpretation coupled with Fornes’ powerful storytelling ensures an unforgettable journey into the darker recesses of the human psyche.
My overall impression
Maria Irene Fornes’ THECONDUCT OF LIFE delves into the depths of human depravity and desire in a gripping 60-minute exploration. Set against the backdrop of a stifling household, the play thrusts five characters into a whirlwind of sex, violence, power struggles, and the quest for humanity amidst oppression. It’s a raw and unflinching portrayal, where love and torture intertwine, leaving the audience breathless.
The Vagrancy, known for their daring productions, fearlessly brings this lesser-known gem to life at the intimate Asylum Lab. Just as they did with the explosive WHITEHOT by Tommy Smith in 2013, The Vagrancy once again proves their prowess in tackling socially relevant narratives that challenge and provoke. In a bold move, late seating is not permitted, emphasizing the urgency and intensity of the experience. Attendees are encouraged to arrive early, as tickets will be released mere minutes before showtime.
